A new 10K road event organised by Builth Running Club, starting and finishing at Hundred House.
The clue is in the race title…….it is most definitely hilly! and for some strange reason the Carter family thought this would be a fun thing to do after the club championship Hay River Run.
This is where the Gazelle made his initial mistake, believing that he could recover as quickly as his 17 year old daughter.
At the first big hill he made his second mistake, allowing Addy to pull away from him
as he foolishly believed she wouldn’t maintain her pace up such a huge
climb. Once he realised his tactical error a massive gap had opened up.
Addy gave everything she had to stay in front and he ran like a man possessed to catch her. (HEALTH and SAFETY NOTE: it is probably not a good thing that once finished your Garmin watches reveal how long your respective heart beats were in the danger zone!)
Despite his best efforts, Addy finished 14th and the Gazelle 15th being 18 seconds behind.
Addy was also the 1st female. Some runners win medals, some win cups and others win shields. But how many can say they have won a trophy as magnificent as this? Surely this has set a new standard in the field of prize giving.
Very well organised, friendly marshals and one to do next year.
[Ed. Congrats Addy. You’re running like a demon. Our women’s team is going to miss you.
