Presteigne- Race 5: Sunday February 6th, 2022

What a great end to the Winter season. A great course and thanks for the efforts of everyone who helped put the race on. Marshalls, timers, cakes, team captains and the runners for turning up.

HHF RACE REPORT – TINA LAVELLE

This was the first season of the revised Cross Country (XC) league. It has been renamed as Herefordshire & Borders XC League by a Committee chaired by Martin Flowers of Wye Valley Runners and 9 other members, who represent each of the participating clubs.  The number of clubs is now

just 10, which must be located in Herefordshire or near the border.

A decision was made that race routes would have to be more typical of

XC races and so they now comprise of fields and woodland, excluding

more challenging trail type terrain. Men and women will also now run the

same distance and all the races would ideally be between 5 & 6 miles.

Race venues this season were as before at Fforest Fields, Croft Castle, Rotherwas and Presteigne plus a new route at Little Peterstow Orchards near Ross-on-Wye.  So there were 5 races but as Rotherwas was included after the season started runners were only required to run at least 3 of

these races to be considered eligible to win awards; both overall and in their age categories. Clubs need at least 4 men & 4 women in every race

to be included in the team positions & awards at the end of the season.

In respect of our club HAY HOTFOOTERS it was good that we fielded

enough runners to make up at least one men’s and one women’s team at every race. Indeed at Fforest Fields we had enough for 2 men’s team and

at Croft Castle for 2 women’s teams. Given the number of runners and so teams that some of the larger clubs have it was great therefore that our men’s team was 15th overall and our women’s team a fantastic 6th!.

It was lovely to welcome 8 new club members as part of our XC teams.

They were Eleanor, Kate, Ruth, Peter, Kevin, Johnny, James and Paul McDermott. Let’s hope that they will also take part in the Off Road races

in the Summer League as well as other races representing our club. Including of course our own MAGIC ROUNDABOUT race, which this year

will be held on Sunday June 19th.

Finally congratulations to our fantastic age category AWARD WINNERS:-

Joe Collins(1st); Eleanor Griffiths (2nd); Sharon Collins & Sue Richards (3rd).
